Cloud computing

Cloud computing is a method of operating a computer system that uses an online network rather than the user's PC operating system. Often you will see online management systems, such as BaseCamp, that allow users of a network to login; and to share information over a network, rather than on their own hard drive for file storage. Using cloud computing helps to prevent the user from losing data on their computer during the event of a hard drive crash - and also helps to keep things a bit more organized for all users on the network.

How Cloud Computing Works

A simple example of cloud computing is often given out with many online service providers such as Charter Communications. When you signup for Charter Internet services, you are given a free trial of “Charter Cloud” where you may store your music files; as well as any files on your hard drive that you would like to backup with an online copy.

In addition to online storage, many virus protection companies now also offer virus protection from cloud servers. This means that you will never have to update your virus software again – and that your virus software will not use up much of your computer's memory (RAM) while in operation. Your virus software will access the cloud database of viruses that is updated via the anti-virus software manufacturer, and will check your computer for the latest threats from their remote server.

Cloud computing has benefits and downfalls in comparison to normal computing.

The benefits of cloud computing are many, especially considering that you don't have to use your own hard disk space to store large files. When you use a cloud computing network, you store your files on a large disk that you only access via the Internet. Using this method ensures that your files are properly backed up via a reliable provider, and also saves disk space on your hard drive.

The disadvantages to using a cloud computing system are few, but should be considered before purchasing a cloud computing subscription. The main thing to keep in mind when using cloud computing is that you will need an extremely fast and reliable Internet connection to access your cloud computing network. If you do not have a high speed connection to the Internet, you will not have instant access to your files. For instance, if you store a large file on the cloud, you will have to wait a long time to access it through the download system. If your internet connection is not reliable and consistent, you will not have access to your files at all.

Cloud computing is becoming very popular in the United States and Canada due to the reasons mentioned above. Most areas have access to high speed cable or DSL that will allow the user to access the cloud computing machine – saving time, money, and ensuring that their files are in a safe place. Cloud computing is most definitely an ingenious idea – and it is now proving to be one of the greatest inventions of the Internet era.
